Major Functions
The County of Volusia is seeking an experienced Software Engineer I/II for the Information Technology division, located in DeLand, Florida.
Software Engineer I Entry-level position performing technical work programming, configuring, and customizing computer systems.
Provides customer support in use of computer systems.
Elicits and documents user requirements.
Analyzes and summarizes complex data sets in order to support business processes.
Software Engineer II Progressively responsible position performing technical work designing, programming, configuring, and customizing computer systems.
Provides customer support in use of computer systems.
Elicits and documents business processes and user requirements.
Analyzes and summarizes complex data sets in order to support business processes.

) Performs all duties of a Software Engineer I [Software Engineer I Illustrative Duties], plus the following.
Determines project resource requirements; including personnel, hardware, and software.
Analyzes cost statistics and prepares economic comparisons of alternative methods.
Designs and implements computer systems, ensuring compliance with established standards.
Creates specifications for coding, testing, and implementation tasks.
Reviews program code to ensure compliance with established standards.
Coordinates implementation of new or modified computer systems.
Identifies opportunities to modify or improve existing systems.
Acts as a liaison to a user agency.
Creates and maintains non-technical user documentation, help files, and training materials.
Conducts user training sessions.
Assists with management presentations regarding a computer system.
Must adhere to Federal, State, County and Local ordinances.
Attends work on a continuous and regular basis.
Responds to emergency situations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements Software Engineer I $57,638.
00 Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Processing or related field, and one (1) year of responsible experience as a programmer.
A comparable amount of training, education, or experience may be substituted for the minimum requirements.
Software Engineer II $61,094.
00 Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Processing or related field, and two (2) years of responsible experience as a programmer.
A comparable amount of training, education, or experience may be substituted for the minimum requirements.

An Associate's degree and four (4) years, or no degree and six (6) years, of progressively responsible experience as a programmer analyst implementing projects involving analysis, database design and development, data conversion and integration, and enterprise application implementation.

Knowledge of the principles of database management systems, including data storage, retrieval, and manipulation.
Knowledge of the assigned governmental functions and the information required from data processing services.
Knowledge of the developer functionality of Microsoft Office products.
Knowledge of the operating characteristics, capabilities, and limitations of a large, integrated, multi-platform site.
Skilled in the use of database software, including Oracle and/or Microsoft SQL Server.
Skilled in design and documentation of computer systems.
Skilled in analysis, design, development, and support of Oracle and/or Microsoft SQL Server databases.
Skilled in developing interfaces using Oracle and/or Microsoft SQL Server stored procedures.
Skilled in C#, Python, or a similar scripting language.
Skilled in analysis, design, development, and administration of relational databases.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to analyze data, develop conclusions, and produce summary reports.
Ability to plan, schedule, and coordinate the work effort of developing computer systems.
